December Caption Contest Winner

This year I had the perfect Christmas. I was sick and slept through the entire day.

I sometimes worry there’s something just basically wrong with me that I have such an aversive response to “the most wonderful time of the year.”

But you guys make me feel so much better. How reassuring to be in such good company!

I thought Todd Sentell had tapped my phone or something… but apparently he was speaking for many of us with his winning caption:

Sweetheart, it's time I shared a secret with you. Mommy hates Christmas very much.

Thank you, Todd – I love it! We love it.

let's get real... it's much better to receive
Todd was also responsible for this beauty:

whoever said "it is better to give than to receive" was full of something else besides Christmas cheer
but in the “to give or to receive” category, Todd was up against the formidable Jane “funny lady” Benson:

and that’s some mighty stiff competition! Well done, both of you!

screw Santa... we have plastic!
I simply could not choose between this wonderfully terse caption from Renee Tassone:

it doesn't matter if you've been good or bad as long as you have credit
and this similar and equally wonderful sentiment from Barbara Hulse:

so I left the choice to you. You loved them both… but a few more of you loved Barbara’s. It’s so empowering to realize that you and you alone have control over how much unnecessary stuff you can accumulate.

Possibly the thing I hate most about Christmas is Christmas music. I stay out of stores and out of earshot of radios from mid-November until January. Which is why I love Gil Morrison’s take on caroling:

fa la la la la la la... oh crap I lost count

Don’t you wish everyone would lose count?

But… it’s a new year, and it’s safe to go out in public for ten blessed months.

Happy New Year, everyone! And thank you for making me smile.
